SculpSure®, EMSCULPT®, or Both?

Once upon a time, not all that long ago, women and men looking to remove stubborn pockets of fat had few options other than liposuction. But thanks to new technology entering the aesthetic market, patients today have several nonsurgical body contouring treatments available. Knowing they can gain a visible reduction in specific areas of fat, many people choose SculpSure and EMSCULPT at our Baton Rouge-area locations.

With so many choices, figuring out which treatment is right for you can be challenging. Each fat-reduction device provides unique benefits and uses different technology to produce results. In some cases, 1 of the procedures is enough to meet a patient’s cosmetic goals, but in some cases combining treatments may be the best plan.

In this blog post, I’ll describe both SculpSure and EMSCULPT and explain why I sometimes recommend undergoing both of these popular treatments. Candidates for either treatment are already in good shape and want to tone areas that don’t respond to exercise or dieting.

SculpSure

Among nonsurgical body contouring procedures, SculpSure is the first laser treatment cleared by the FDA for fat reduction. SculpSure is known to reduce fat by more than 20% in the treatment area, which includes the flanks (“love handles”), abdomen, back, inner and outer thighs, and just below the chin (“double chin”). SculpSure delivers heat energy through laser applicators and melts away fat cells without incisions or injections. The treatment takes about 25 minutes and no downtime is needed. The body naturally flushes the dead fat cells in the weeks following the procedure.

EMSCULPT

This body contouring treatment is generating a lot of buzz, including in national magazines such as Allure and Woman’s Health. And the excitement is well-deserved. The FDA-approved procedure not only reduces more than 20% of fat in the target area, but it also can build abdominal muscles. EMSCULPT uses high-intensity electromagnetic energy to cause involuntary muscle contractions, similar to sit-ups. In fact, a 30-minute treatment leaves a patient feeling as if they’ve just had an intense core workout. EMSCULPT can also be used to build gluteal muscles. You can learn more about how EMSCULPT works, how it melts away fat, and how many treatment sessions you need in this related blog post.

Combining Treatments

Both SculpSure and EMSCULPT treatments can be performed during the same appointment without downtime. Because EMSCULPT is limited to treating the abdomen and buttocks, women and men concerned about fat in other areas of the body may want to include SculpSure in their overall treatment plans. A common example would be using SculpSure on the flanks or thighs and EMSCULPT for the abdomen.
