How Are JUVÉDERM Treatments Performed?
JUVÉDERM should always be administered by an experienced professional in order to get the best results. A professional experienced with injectables will know how deep to inject the product, where to focus the injections, and how to provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere. JUVÉDERM injectables are an excellent alternative to plastic surgery when you’re looking to refine your current look. Our providers combine fillers to create a “liquid facelift” for patients who aren’t ready for a surgical facelift. The best way to know what your options are is to come in and visit for a consultation. Are JUVÉDERM Injections Painful?
As with other dermal filler injections, you should expect to feel a pinch and mild pressure during your treatment. All JUVÉDERM XC fillers contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort during your treatment. You can also apply an ice pack to the area to help with swelling post-procedure.
Before The Procedure
A topical numbing medication applied approximately 20 minutes before the treatment to the areas that will be injected to allow for a more comfortable experience during the procedure.
The Procedure
Your health care provider will carefully inject the filler under your skin to lift and contour cheeks, smooth lines, and plump lips.* Following the injection, they may gently massage the treated areas. Your provider will provide an ice pack after the procedure is complete. The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes.
After The Procedure
Immediately following injections, it is best to avoid strenuous exercise or alcohol. You may use ice to help minimize bruising or swelling. In addition, your health care provider can discuss topical or oral products to help reduce pain and downtime.

How To Maintain Your Results
The longevity of your filler results varies between fillers and treatment areas. It depends on your injector’s skill, the amount of filler used, and how quickly your body breaks down the filler. However, there are some things you can do to maintain your results as long as possible.
- Follow your injector’s recommendations about aftercare.
- Protect your skin from the sun with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

When injected into areas of the face that move a lot, like the lips and around the mouth, fillers tend to break down faster than when injected into places like the temples and tear troughs that stay still. Regularly applying a high-quality sunscreen and moisturizer helps extend the life of filler results. Regular maintenance injections provide the best way to keep the look you love going on and on.

How do I reduce swelling after JUVÉDERM injections?

Swelling is normal in treated areas for about 48 to 72 hours after Juvéderm injections. To minimize swelling, it is helpful to apply an ice pack right after treatment and avoid sunbathing, saunas, hot tubs, and other sources of heat for the first day or so.

Are JUVÉDERM, and dermal fillers in general, safe?

Yes, these products are very safe when used by experienced injectors on properly screened patients. JUVÉDERM contains synthetic ingredients, so there is little risk of allergic reactions like with collagen injections.
