How Neurotoxins Work

Similar to BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, DAXXIFY, Jeuveau, and Xeomin contain various forms of botulinum toxin type A proteins. These products are classified as neuromodulators or neurotoxins, and they are FDA approved for targeting the muscles that cause expression. By temporarily suspending the contractions of the muscles, these neurotoxins allow wrinkles in the overlying skin to smooth out.

Dysport®

Dysport is made by Galderma, which also makes Restylane® dermal fillers. It is a bit thinner and lighter than BOTOX, so the effects can diffuse farther from the injection site, making it advantageous for treating larger areas. It is not suitable for patients with lactose or milk allergies.

DAXXIFY®

This unique neurotoxin works faster and lasts up to twice as long as the others. Instead of using stabilizing proteins like BOTOX, Dysport, and Jeuveau, DAXXIFY is stabilized with a patented Peptide Exchange Technology™ (PXT). It contains no human or animal products and is, therefore, considered vegan.

Jeuveau®

Jeuveau is the first neurotoxin created exclusively for cosmetic use. Its state-of-the-art manufacturing process may make it more potent than other neurotoxins, which means results may last longer.

Xeomin®

Xeomin requires fewer units than BOTOX to achieve the desired results, so treatments may be more affordable. It does not contain additives, requires no refrigeration, and is double-filtered. This filtering often makes it a good choice for people who have developed a resistance to BOTOX or Dysport.

Before the Procedure

This cosmetic procedure is relatively easy and can be done with minimal discomfort. Dr. Weiler’s Physician Assistants and the staff at Weiler Plastic Surgery will make your time with us as easy and comfortable as possible for each and every service.

The Procedure

Small injections are administered under the skin to improve problem areas on the face. Dysport and other neurotoxins are used most effectively to smooth lines and wrinkles on the face.* Because this is a simple, nonsurgical treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime. So you can make an appointment to stop by your health care professional’s office for treatment and return to life right away!

After The Procedure

Immediately following your neurotoxin injections, it is best to avoid strenuous exercise or alcohol. You may use ice around injection sites. In addition, your health care provider may discuss avoiding using any NSAIDS, such as Motrin or ibuprofen, for a day or so to help reduce downtime, bruising, or swelling.

Results

You will be able to notice Dysport results in three to four days, but full results will not be apparent until two weeks after the procedure. Treatment is usually needed every three to four months to maintain best results in wrinkle and fine line reduction.*
