Double board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Daniel Womac and Dr. Bennett Fontenot offer the DIEP flap procedure at our Metairie and Lafayette, Louisiana locations. This advanced breast reconstruction technique uses your own tissue to create natural breast reconstruction results. Serving patients from Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Covington, New Orleans, and here we are dedicated to helping you take this significant step toward moving forward after breast cancer.

What Is a DIEP Flap Procedure?
The DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flap procedure involves transferring skin, fat, and blood vessels from your lower abdomen to your chest to reconstruct a breast mound. Unlike traditional breast reconstruction methods that rely on implants or muscle tissue, the DIEP flap preserves your muscle integrity, providing a more natural appearance and feel and reduced recovery time.
Our surgeons use this breast surgery as part the DIEP Mommy Makeover, which enhances the breasts and body in a single procedure.
By employing this leading-edge approach, we focus on both innovation and the meticulous care needed to make your reconstruction process seamless and successful.

Why Choose DIEP Flap for Breast Reconstruction?
Our surgeons can perform the DIEP flap technique as immediate breast reconstruction at the time of mastectomy or as delayed reconstruction sometime after mastectomy. The DIEP flap offers unique advantages that go beyond replacing the breast. Because it is made out of your own tissue, the reconstructed breast can adapt naturally to changes in your body over time, such as weight fluctuations and aging. This method also eliminates the risks commonly associated with implants, such as capsular contracture or implant rupture, making it a more resilient and lasting solution for many patients.
Am I a Candidate for DIEP Flap Breast Reconstruction?
The DIEP flap procedure can be an excellent option for women in good health who have sufficient abdominal tissue. It’s particularly beneficial for those who prefer to avoid implants or have had previous complications with implant-based reconstruction. If you’ve undergone radiation therapy or prior surgeries, our surgeons will carefully assess your situation to determine if the DIEP flap is the right approach for you.
