What Is an Upper Body Lift or Bra Strap Excision?
Bra strap excision is a plastic surgery procedure that improves the appearance of the upper to mid back around the bra strap area. If skin laxity is an issue, liposuction alone typically won’t achieve the results you want. But by combining liposuction to the back with the removal of excess skin, our surgeons can help you eliminate the bra line rolls and bulges that frustrate so many patients.

Incision Placement
If you’re like most of our patients, you want to be rid of the excess fat and skin but are concerned about scarring. Our board-certified plastic surgeons make every effort to keep scarring to a minimum, hiding the incision in the bra strap area. With time, the scar becomes very faint.

Your Surgical Experience
At Weiler Plastic Surgery, bra strap excision is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. At your preoperative appointment, we’ll review any medications you may be taking and advise if any should be discontinued before surgery. After your procedure, a surgical garment or ace wrap is applied and should be worn for 4 to 6 weeks.
Following the procedure, patients will require a ride home and someone to stay with them for a day or two. Your surgeon will provide aftercare instructions for you to follow at home. Most patients find any discomfort mild and manageable during recovery from a bra strap excision.
The Consultation Process
Our plastic surgeons and their office staff will assist in making your surgical experience as easy and comfortable as possible. You will be able to discuss your areas of concern and goals for bra strap excision surgery. A physical exam will be performed to assess your upper and midback area, skin, and excess fat deposits. A treatment plan will be recommended to meet and exceed your expressed goals, along with alternative procedures.* At Weiler Plastic Surgery, we’d like for you to take as much time as you need to have all your questions answered. What To Expect After Surgery
We like to see our patients back in the office one to two days after surgery. At this time, dressings are removed and incisions are assessed. Concerns are addressed, and instructions are reviewed for optimal recovery. After this visit, you will be allowed to go home and shower with your compression garment on. You should expect some swelling and bruising initially, which will subside over the next couple of weeks. Walking around after your surgery is very important to promote circulation. You will return to the office 7 days post-surgery and again at 2 weeks for your follow-up visits.
Post-Op Activity Restrictions
Recovery after an upper body lift varies, but most patients can return to work within 5 to 7 days and return to normal activities within 2 to 3 weeks.* Strenuous activity and weightlifting should be avoided for several weeks following the surgery.
